Turkish Pipeline Explosion Interrupts Gas Flow from Iran

Source: VOA

An explosion at an oil pipeline in Turkey has interrupted gas flow from neighboring Iran.

Officials say the blast happened early Friday in Turkish territory along the Iranian border.

Authorities say the fire has been extinguished, but it could take up to several days to make the repairs necessary to fully restore oil flow.

There was no immediate word on what caused the blast.

Oil pipelines along the Iran-Turkey border have seen a series of recent explosions.

Earlier this month, Iranian security forces killed three Kurdish rebels suspected of blowing up a major pipeline carrying gas to Turkey. That explosion halted gas exports to Turkey for 24 hours.

Last week, an explosion struck an oil pipeline in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan province, sparking a fire that took 10 hours to put out.
