TEHRAN, Aug. 14 (Mehr News Agency) - Iran basketball team on Sunday won the 2011 William Jones Cup invitational tournament in Taipei after beating South Korea.
Veselin Matic's team beat the Koreans 66-59 in the final game at the Sinjhuang Stadium. Iran had already won the title in past two editions.
In the bronze medal match, the Philippines defeated Taiwan 82-72 and finished at third place.
The Iranian team is gearing up for the FIBA Asia Championship scheduled to be held in Wuhan, China from September 15 to 25 where the winning finalist goes to the Olympics next year.
The William Jones Cup is an international basketball tournament held annually in China's Taiwan. It was named after Renato William Jones, a basketball promoter and one of the founders of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
