TEHRAN, Aug. 14 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iran's Atomic Energy Organization Director Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani has said that the Bushehr nuclear power plant will be connected to the national grid by the end of the holy month of Ramadan (August 31).
Once the plant is connected, it can generate 40 percent of its total power generation, Abbasi noted.
The power plant first was launched in August 2010 as engineers loaded 163 fuel rods into the reactor under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Abbasi said Iranian officials have emphasized that the plant should have its highest level of safety, particularly after the incident occurred at Japan's Fukoshima power plant.
The plant, which is located near the port city of Bushehr on the coast of the Persian Gulf, will produce 1000 megawatts of electricity once it becomes fully operational.
