Iranian taekwondo player Mehran Askari claimed a gold medal in the Men's -80kg category of the 26th Summer Universiade. Askari defeated Yunus Sari from Turkey in the final match in Shenzhen, China.

"I don't know how to express my feeling. I dedicate my gold medal to my parents and the Iranian people. I had won the gold medal in the previous edition and I am so happy to defend my title," Askari said.

Bronze medal went jointly to Christos Pilavaki from Cypros and Mexican Fernando Salvador.
More than 8,000 athletes from about 150 countries are vying in the two-week event. They are competing in 24 sports.
With one day remaining, Iran is 31st at the medal table with one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
China leads the table with 60 gold medals, 35 silvers, 28 bronzes and 123 medals in total.
