Mohammad KhatamiSeyed Mohammad Khatami, former president, in a meeting with a group of intellectuals on the last Friday of Ramadan - Qods Day - which has been named in solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine, stressed that this year the last Friday of Ramadan has coincided with the waves of freedom and democracy seeking uprisings in the region which will eventually let the oppressed people of the region to the path to prosperity and freedom.

Khatami while referring to the nations in the region added: "These people for tens of years have suffered the emergency law imposed on them by their governments; and emergency law gives dictators more freedom to put all sorts of pressure, suppress and silence even people's slightest criticism and protest against the dictators."

Khatami stressed that today these nations have waken and demand freedom, they demand the end to suppression and emergency law, and they demand their dignity being restored either be it violated by Israel or by their own dictator governments. These nations cry for free elections and democratic governments and cry "every citizen, a vote".

Seyed Mohammad Khatami also regarding the Iranian nation said: "The Iranian nation also has moved in this bright path bravely for tens of years and sees itself beside the oppressed Palestinian nation and all the risen nations in the region: Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen Syria and Bahrain. Today Libya is covered in blood and fire but with God's help the dictator will be gone for good."

Seyed Mohammad Khatami by pointing to the human catastrophes in Syria added: "Today the killing that is happening in Syria is very tragic and for sure the response to people's rightful demand for freedom is not killing, butchering and destruction."

Khatami believes that "definitely this wave will continue and sooner or later will capture all dictator regimes and all governments who live in the past. It is a pity that dictators cannot realize the realities of their time and the right and respect of the people; and even if they realize that, it is when it is too late."

At the end, Khatami expressed that "We, like other people of the region and all freedom-seeking people in the world, ask dictators to truly, and not deceitfully, change their ways to bring trust to their people and cross from dictatorship to democracy in the least costly way otherwise quickly return the right to people and leave."
