TBM Machine Moving Slowly Beneath Tehran Streets

An automatic TBM machine has started digging the tunnel for the third line of Tehran subway and construction of the line, which has progressed 70 percent by now is expected to be finished by the end of next Iranian calendar year (March 2013).

Tehran SAMA quoted Habil Darvish, managing director of Tehran Subway Company, as saying that the TBM machine has started to work in southern Tehran at Raah Ahan square and will continue digging until it reaches Qaem square in north Tehran. The third line is 35 km with 28 stations. There are more than 50 workshops active along the line.

The official stated that TBM machine digs 15 m of tunnel per day and there are 4 automatic digging machines currently working with the highest degree of safety. The automatic machine digging third line's tunnel has reached Raah Ahan square in south Tehran after digging 2.5 km of tunnel. It is the first time that such machine has been used after building subway stations along the line.
