PAAIA Mentors represent a wide range of fields including business, finance, medicine, law, science, journalism, politics, academia, arts & entertainment, and non-government organizations (NGOs). The 2011 Mentorship Program matched 55 highly successful Mentors with 96 of the brightest college students and young professionals from our community. The result was an amazing experience for many of those involved! This was only possible because of the support and generosity of you, PAAIA's members and volunteers all across the country.
“My mentor Pouria Abbassi has helped me find my way in an undefined corporate world compared to routines and rules of the military. He has positively directed my pursuit and life endeavors.” -- Kamran Forghani
“I was paired with a senior State Department official who provided me with great insight into a career working on Iran policy. He has been incredibly kind and generous with his advice and willingness to connect me with others. He also gave me “carte blanche” to call him whenever I needed anything. It has really been a valuable experience thus far.” -- Sherry Hakimi
“The practice of law is an open-ended maze of opportunities and choices. My mentor, Nili Moghaddam, provided a wealth of information about her experiences in the private and public sector and in particular, her work as an Assistant Attorney General. She was genuinely interested in my strong interest in practicing as a trial attorney and provided guidance and encouragement to that end. I look forward to establishing a strong professional relationship with her, as I continue to navigate my way through the legal profession.” -- Ehsan Tabesh
About the PAAIA Mentorship Program
As a benefit to our members and as a cornerstone of our mission to empower the Iranian American community across the United States, the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) launched the Mentorship Program in 2010. Application process for the 2012 Mentorship Program will begin on April 15, 2011.
Today, college graduates and young professionals are struggling to transition into an unstable economy, attempting to determine how to translate their studies and experiences into a concrete professional path. Mentors provide tangible, relatable advice to recent graduates and young professionals that can be life changing. PAAIA's ability to help the next generation of Iranian Americans thrive in the professional world is at the heart of our work and a guiding principle in our ability to contribute to the innovation of our country and preservation of our heritage.
The continued support of the community is vital to sustaining and expanding PAAIA's Mentorship Program. For example, your support will go towards purchasing mentoring management software, which will help us better track and report on the program, as well as assist us in hiring a National Community Relations and NexGen Liaison to manage the program.
On behalf of PAAIA staff and board members, we thank you for your continual support and investment in our community.
