2011 has been a year of growth and important victories on critical issues, and there are many great things on the horizon in 2012!
This year, we launched two important new initiatives: NIACampus is training the next generation of leaders and providing Iranian-American students with the valuable resources they need to grow both personally and professionally. And, our Ambassadors program is helping us reach out and build and engage our membership in communities nationwide.
This past year saw the launch of our nationwide Day of Service, where Iranian Americans by the hundreds volunteered at nursing homes, food banks, parks, playgrounds and senior centers and gave back in their communities. By popular demand, we will be having another nationwide Day of Service on March 3, 2012! (details to come) We also launched our "Let's Talk Iran" podcast series, providing a new outlet to get news and information on issues that affect U.S./Iran relations and the Iranian-American community.
And, our first-ever Leadership Conference was a huge success, bringing Iranian Americans from across the country together for three exciting days of hands-on trainings, workshops, seminars and Capitol Hill visits. Our next Leadership Conference, scheduled for October 2012, promises to be bigger, and even better!
At our special events this year, we hosted notables such as Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, Deputy Secretary of State Suzanne Nossel, author Stephen Kinzer, journalist and human rights activist Maziar Bahari and many others.
This year, our advocacy efforts resulted in sweeping changes to the single entry visa policy for Iranian students, and the creation of a UN Human Rights monitor on Iran. And, we continue to push back againstthe growing drive for war with Iran and the ever more punitive sanctions that hurt the Iranian people, empower the regime figures and actually make America less, not more secure.
With 2011 drawing to a close, we look ahead to 2012, our 10th year serving the Iranian-American community!
Our journey has been empowering, rewarding, and challenging at times, but one thing is for sure: we wouldn't be here without you - our members and supporters across the nation.
