A Grim Fate May Awaits The Lions
The number of lions found in Tehran recently has reached 5. Initially two cubs were captured by Tehran Fire Department crew in separate incidents around mid-December. According to Jahan News, This prompted the authorities to launch an investigation which resulted in discovering the cubs were part of a group of six lions which were being transported by a well-known person from the northern town of Babol to the city of Shiraz in the south. The two captured cubs were among three lions who had managed to escape from the vehicle. The other lion died due to known reasons.
The authorities confiscated the remaining 3 lions and handed them to the Environmental Protections Agency office in Tehran's Pardisan Park to join the cubs.
While the lions are being well taken care of at Pardisan Park, their fate isn't clear and looks grim. According to reports, the three lions recently added to the pack have severe health issues and will most likely be put to sleep. Even though the two cubs have been vaccinated, it is speculated they will also develop the same health issues due to being kept with the sick animals.
Pardisan Forest Park (Shahrak-e Gharb's Forest Park) is a multi-purpose complex covering more than 270 hectares located in north-west Tehran. This complex is primarily an educational, research and cultural center with the objective of creating suitable facilities for the study of the environment in all its different aspects. However, in addition to scientific activities, facilities have been created in Pardisan Park for visitors to spend time in an inspiring, educational atmosphere.
