From DC to Dayton to Dallas, Iranian Americans are living in a variety of cities throughout the U.S.  While we all share a common bond in our ethnic heritage and love for kabob, we may have very different opinions, concerns and priorities depending on our geographic location.  For example, Iranian Americans in Chicago may be interested in the local Mayoral election, while Iranian Americans in Los Angeles have the state budget on their minds.  Or, Iranian Americans in Chicago may want to plan a Norooz celebration for their community, while others in Boston want to host a voter registration drive.

Here at NIAC, we are very aware of the uniqueness of each Iranian-American community. In an effort to provide more customized events and resources to our members across the U.S., NIAC is proud to launch our Ambassador Program.

The purpose of the Ambassador Program is to provide a local liaison who will serve as a bridge between their local Iranian-American community and NIAC's national efforts based in Washington, DC, and empower local communities to form closer bonds and execute unique events.  Ambassadors will be in close contact with NIAC's staff and help ensure a two-way dialogue is maintained between their community and the NIAC Staff in Washington, DC.  Ambassadors will be provided the resources to organize their own local events with NIAC's support, thereby giving the community more opportunities to take action and build strong networks.

"The Ambassador Program is the first of its kind for NIAC.  Our members will be able to share with us their personalities and preferences so we can better meet their needs.  Additionally, by holding more events on the local level, our members will be able to build and sustain relations with their local network," says Nobar Elmi, Director of Community Relations & Programming.  "My colleague, Lily, and I will be working very closely with all of our Ambassadors to ensure adequate support and constant communication between our office and the community."

We have a great team in place this inaugural year and look forward to adding more Ambassadors to our roster in the coming years. Our 2011 NIAC Ambassadors include:

Negin Almassi Chicago, IL
Reza Amin Los Angeles, CA
Siobhan Coley-Amin Los Angeles, CA
Maryam Borghey Seattle, WA
Behrouz Enayati Scotch Plains, NJ
Al Garman Bellevue, WA
Annahita Mahdavi Irvine, CA
Dawn Sepideh Mortazavi Irvine, CA
Hossein Noshirvani Potomac, MD
Narimon Safavi Chicago, IL
Abbas Zeineddin Atlanta, GA

We are currently working with our Ambassadors to plan exciting events and activities, which will be listed in the calendar section of our website.

NIAC is proud of the passion and dedication displayed by our Ambassadors and look forward to meeting you - our members and supporters - as we visit Iranian-American communities across the country.  For more information on the Ambassador Program, please visit our website.   If you would like to serve as an Ambassador or have suggestions on local events and activities, please contact us at
