Several Iranian councils and associations based outside Iran have organized solidarity gatherings to take place today and tomorrow in support of the people's protests in Iran.

The demonstrations will be held in 20 different cities across the world in denunciation of the state's "bloody oppression" of protesters and "the widespread arrests and growing violence of the regime against dissidents," says a joint statement in connection with the international rallies.

Iranians took to the streets on February 14 in response to a rally call from opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi. The police and security forces clashed with protesters causing two deaths and dozens of injuries.

Thousands were arrested following the protests, and the two opposition leaders who were kept under house arrest during the protests are now being forced into complete isolation from the outside world.

Protests were held in Tehran and numerous other major cities, and widespread arrests have also been reported in such cities as Mashhad, Shiraz, Esfahan, Babol and Kerman.

Exiled Iranians in Aachen, Atlanta, Stockholm, Oslo, Berlin, Paris, Toronto, Dortmund, Chicago, Copenhagen, Köln, Gutenberg, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, Washington, Vienna and Hamburg are participating in demonstrations in support of Iranian protesters today and tomorrow.

The demonstrations have been promoted by 58 various Iranian cultural and political figures as well as nine opposition organizations with varying points of view.

The co-ordination council of the Green Path of Hope, founded by opposition leader Mousavi, has called on Iranian protesters to participate in protest rallies all across Iran on the seventh day following the death of the two protesters killed during the February 14 protests.
