Iran Reaches Self-Sufficiency in Blood Plasma Production

announced on Saturday that it has reached self-sufficiency in producing
plasma, which is the base material for producing a wide range of blood products.
The announcement was made in a ceremony held here in Tehran today to mark the
country's self-sufficiency in Plasma production, attended by Iran's Health
Minister Marziyeh Vahid Dastjerdi.
Iran has experienced rapid progress in Plasma production in recent years. Plasma
is the base for producing many blood products and factors, specially IVIG and
Self-sufficiency in blood plasma production turns Iran into one of the world's
pioneering countries in area of blood products.
Official figures showed that only Iran's Blood Transfusion Organization has
produced 120 thousand liters of plasma in the current year, while the figure
will rise to 150 thousand liters in the next year.
Official reports also said that the country's private sector is also due to
produce 50 thousand liters of plasma next year.
The figures mean that Iran will start exports of a wide range of blood products,
including IVIG, Factor 9, Factor 8 and Albumin, to the other world countries.
Iranian researchers have also recently made a breakthrough success in producing
a new formula of Factor7 and Factor 9.
