A state-owned Iranian newspaper says Iranian authorities have detained an American woman on suspicion of spying.

Hall Talayan (right) has been detained in Iran on suspicion of spying.

The "Iran" daily claimed the 55-year-old woman -- identified as Hall Talayan -- had spying equipment on her body when she was detained on entering Iran from Armenia without a visa.

The report did not say when Talayan was detained.

The arrest has not been confirmed by authorities.

In July 2009, Iran detained three U.S. nationals who were initially accused of crossing the border illegally from northern Iraq and later accused of spying.

One of the three, Sarah Shourd, was released on bail in September, while the other two remain in prison and could go on trial next month.

The United States has dismissed the spying charges, and their families have said they were hikers who may have crossed the border inadvertently.
