Issue of German journalists can be resolved: Iranian FM

Acting Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has said the issue of the German journalists who were arrested in October in Iran can be resolved through negotiation.

The two German journalists from Bild am Sonntag entered Iran on tourist visas and were arrested in October 10 for trying to interview Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a woman convicted of adultery and murder, without having obtained journalistic credentials.

Ashtiani has received a death sentence for committing murder and this sentence takes precedence over her conviction for committing adultery which carries stoning to death. The Ashtiani case has been hyped by the Western media outlets.

"We can find a way to resolve the issue of the two German journalists," Salehi told Germany's news magazine Der Spiegel.

After efforts and remarks by German officials, "we decided to arrange talks with this country's officials about the issue," he said.

One solution to the problem is that the editor-in-chief of the Bild am Sonntag admit his mistake and apologize for it, he stated.

Salehi also invited the German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle to visit Iran.

Reportedly, Salehi's remarks have been welcomed by the German foreign minister.
