Iran gas exports to Turkey up 50%

exported some 8.25 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey in 2010,
showing around 50 percent rise year on year, National Iranian Gas Export Company
The amount shows up to 100 percent increase compared to 2008, the report added.
In 2010, Iran earned $3 billion from gas exports to Turkey, which accounts for 4
percent of the nation's total production.
Currently Iran exports 30 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey per day
on the average.
Iranian Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi and Turkish Energy and Natural Resources
Minister Taner Yildiz held a meeting in Tehran on Saturday.
During the meeting the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest.
Iranian gas transit to Europe via Turkey, boosting the two countries cooperation
in the energy field, and Turkey's investment in Iranian gas fields were among
the major topics of the meeting.
Turkey agreed in 1996 to buy 10 billion cubic meters of
natural gas annually for 25 years from Iran. Iran is Turkey's second largest
supplier of natural gas after Russia. Turkey uses Iranian gas to fire half of
its power plants.
Iran's gas exports to Turkey in 2009 amounted to roughly $7 billion, Press TV
The gas network between the two countries has the capacity to increase the
annual transfer of gas up to 15 billion cm.
The gas transfer through Bazargan border can be increased to even higher levels
by developing the network in order to export more gas not only to Turkey, but
also to other countries.
