Japan has crushed three-time champion Saudi Arabia to cruise to the next round of the 2011 Asian Cup along with Jordan as the second team of Group B.
A hat-trick from striker Shinji Okazaki and two strikes by Ryoichi Maeda gave the Blue Samurais an easy victory at al-Ryian Stadium in Doha on Monday.
"I'm very satisfied with today's result. I think we've cleared the first hurdle of this tournament," Japan's manager Alberto Zaccheroni said.
"We did better in the second match than in the opener and we did better in the third than in the second. I'm glad to see the team growing like that," he added.
Jordan also came from behind to defeat Syria 2-1 at the Qatar Sports Club Stadium.
Mohamad Al Zino gave Syria an early lead, but an own goal from Ali Dyab put Jordan back on level terms after half an hour, before Odai Al Saify fired home the winner.
"It was very tough today and Syria had some chances, but we played well, we focused and were tactically disciplined," Jordan's Iraqi head coach Adnan Hamad said.
The result saw Jordan finish second in Group B while Japan topped the group on goal difference.
Japan now takes on the host Qatar and Jordan faces Uzbekistan in the quarterfinal.
