Iran will launch a new bunkering center in the Persian Gulf in the next few days.
Iran has sold some 2 million tons of furnace oil and gas oil through its bunkering centers in the Persian Gulf from the beginning of current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2010).
Iran has succeeded to secure 20 percent of the bunkering market in the Persian Gulf region and its share would rise to 50 percent by the end of the fifth five-year development plan (2010-2015), announced Hamid Behbahani, the minister of transportation here in May 2010.
Behbahani added that during the previous years, Iran was sending its oil products to Fujairah for bunkering, but now the country has acquired a remarkable share of the market in the Persian Gulf waters.
He stipulated that by launching new projects, Iran's share in providing fuel to tankers would rise remarkably.
Earlier managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Farid Ameri had said that it is estimated the Iran's revenue from bunkering in the Persian Gulf would rise to 1.5 billion euro this Iranian calendar year 1389 (to end March 21).
He estimated four million tons of fuel oil and 200 thousand tons of gas oil would be sold to ships navigating in the Persian Gulf.
