Iran started the 18th Men's Junior World Championship in Thessaloniki, Greece with a loss to Sweden. Iran, who has been drawn in Group D along with Portugal, Spain, Hungry, Sweden and Canada, lost to Sweden 30-47 in its opening.
Portugal overpowered Canada 49-17 in another same group match.
Iran coach Taghi Nari has not accompanied the team in the competitions and stayed in home.
"I will never work at the team because of lack of management. I shared my experience with the Iranian handball officials but that's enough. I am done here," Nari said.
Iran will play Spain in the next match. The competitions will run to 30 July.
