Renowned Kurdish musician Tara Jaff will hold a workshop on "The Place of the Harp in Persian Music" at Iran's House of Music on Wednesday.
She will talk about techniques and methods of playing the harp found in the poetry and music history of Iran during her master class. Additionally, harps made by Abdollah Abbasi will be unveiled at the venue.
Born in 1953 in Baghdad, Jaff experimented with various stringed instruments, but it was her fascination with the ancient harps of Sumeria, Assyria and Elam, dating back as far as 3000 BC, that led her to the contemporary Celtic harp.
She has developed her own innovative style using the various musical rhythms and modes of the region, bringing a contemporary expression to an ancient form of music and song.
She has been living in the UK since 1976 and has performed widely, mainly as a solo artist in concerts, festivals, galleries and conferences, and has appeared regularly on radio and television worldwide.
