From 30 July to 4 August 2011, Seyhoun Gallery, in West Hollywood California, will host a show by New York City based visual artist Serge Hamad. As an artist, Serge’s goal is to use his work to support global human rights efforts and he has independently volunteered to donate the proceeds from the Seyhoun event to the International Campaign For Human Rights In Iran.

The opening reception will be on Saturday, 30 July from 6 to 9pm and will feature a short presentation by a member of the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran on the organization’s efforts and the state of human rights in Iran. (RSVP on Facebook)

In the show, Serge uses photography and graphic arts to explore the persecution of socially marginalized Iranians, including censored artists, targeted activists, women facing discrimination, imprisoned filmmakers, and sexual minorities subjected to bigotry. The show also features an interactive human rights themed installation entitled “Take a Stand.” “Take a Stand” allows each attendee to elect to be part of a series of portraits that will be used-in combination with photos featuring prominent Iranian and international figures, including Dr. Shirin Ebadi-to generate multiple photo compilations. Guests will then be able to purchase customized prints of a compilation of their making.

Serge started his career at a young age as a war photographer. He learned to capture distinct human traits like hatred, fear and compassion in an impartial and respectful way. For the last 2 years, Segre’s photography has aimed to promote human rights and some of his work was submitted by the world-renowned artist, Shirin Neshat, to be part of an art piece auctioned at Christie’s London benefiting women’s rights efforts.
