The national police chief says the presence of foreign forces in the region and their plan in promoting drug abuse, sex, and violence is a major reason behind the rise in crime rate in the country.

Esmaeil Ahmadi-Moqaddam made the remarks in an address to a session of parliament held on Tuesday to discuss the root causes of the recent rise in the number of criminal offences in the country.
The police commander also said that the police and other security organizations, over the past decade, have made great efforts and taken significant measures to lower the crime rate.
But, he added, statistics show that the crime rate went up after the incidents which occurred after the 2009 presidential election.
