Pol Dokhtar is a city in the Lorestan province in western Iran. It is approximately 100 kilometres from Khorramabad, the provincial capital.

 

For over 15 years, the residents of some of the villages around the city of Pol Dokhtar have been fighting with officials to address recurring oil leaks from a pumping station and oil pipes nearby that have polluted the underground water system and the springs in the area. However, for the most part, the complaints of the residents have fallen to deaf ears and their struggle with a pollution that has crippled their lives continues.
