Amnesty International, in collaboration with the Iranian activist community in NYC and a number of Hollywood luminaries, is carrying out an action on Wednesday, June 8 at the Iran Mission to the United Nations in Manhattan, located at 622 Third Avenue.
We invite you to join us! The purpose of the action is two-fold:
1. We will symbolically rename the location right outside the Mission "Azadi Square" (Freedom Square) as part of the Amnesty International/United4Iran Azadi Square campaign.
Activists will have their photos taken holding signs with Azadi Square written in both Farsi and English. The photos will be used in our virtual Azadi Square campaign.
2. The other purpose is to deliver a stack of petitions on behalf of persecuted Iranian film director Jafar Panahi to the UN Mission. Panahi is appealing a six year prison sentence and a ban on carrying out his professional activities. The Amnesty delegation will be led by Academy Award-winning film director Paul Haggis. Iranian-born actress Nazanin Boniadi, film producer and actress Trudie Styler, and journalist/filmmaker Maziar Bahari will also accompany the Amnesty International delegation.
Event starts at 10am and ends at 1pm.
