Iran Denies French Claim On Further Enrichment

Source: ISNA

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi dismissed French claim that Iran is enriching uranium beyond the level of 20 percent.

"We inform the IAEA of any act that we carry out regarding enrichment activities and we deny French allegation since the IAEA has verified Iran's nuclear program," Salehi told reporters on Thursday on the sidelines of the 4th (Economic Cooperation Organization) ECO environment ministers in Tehran.

Also as to installation of centrifuges in Fordo nuclear site, he said, "the Islamic republic of Iran informs the IAEA of any action regarding civilian nuclear enrichment and we have already told IAEA officials that we would transfer 20-percent enriched fuel to Fordo site from Natanz nuclear installation."

The French Foreign Ministry claimed Wednesday Iran's further uranium enrichment was a provocation and violation of international laws.

"This announcement is a provocation," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bernard Valero claimed and added that it reinforces the old concerns of the international community against the Iranian government's insistence on nuclear plans.

Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Chief Fereidoun Abbasi said Wednesday Iran intends to triple production of 20-percent enriched fuel under the IAEA observation.

He added Iran is going to install the first chain of 164 new-generation centrifuges at Natanz and Fordo, the nation's two nuclear enrichment plants under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision.

The west has accused Iran of producing nuclear weapons, while Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful.

Iran is under four rounds of the UN Security Council resolutions over its refusal to halt peaceful enrichment work.
