Iranian opposition groups have called on people to join peaceful gatherings in the main squares of cities across the country on Wednesday June 15. The Kaleme website reports that the Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope has also invited people to visit the graves of the "martyrs" of the Green movement on Thursday, June 16.

The so-called Green movement is the protest movement that emerged in the wake of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's disputed victory in the 2009 presidential election. The Council's announcement mentions Neda Agha-Soltan and Sohrab Araabi, the young protesters who were shot to death on the streets of Tehran in the mass protests that followed the June 2009 election, in its list of martyrs. The council goes on to name Haleh Sahabi, the jailed Iranian activist who died on June 1, when her father's funeral was attacked, and Hoda Saber, the jailed journalist who died last Sunday following a hunger strike of nearly 10 days in protest of Sahabi's death.

The Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope is a broad coalition established by Iranian opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, before they were put under house arrest and completely cut off from the outside world.

The Council had already called on protesters to join a silent march on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of the controversial 2009 election. The march led to sporadic clashes and a series of arrests.

In addition, Kaleme reports that a group of families of political prisoners together with reformist youth have announced they will go on a fast to commemorate Hoda Saber on June 15, the third day following his death.
