Iran said on Tuesday that it intends to send "Navid" and "Fajr" satellites into space by March 2012 and build "Rasad 2" satellite.

An Iranian Space Expert and a member of the Malek-Ashtar University of Technology Faculty Member Mohammad Rezaei said that the 50-kg remote-sensing "Navide Elmo-Sannat" satellite is going to be launched.

Iranian scientists are working on remote-sensing and telecommunication satellites as well, he added.

Also regarding Iranian scholars' measures to construct new generation of indigenous satellite carriers, he said, "Iran's Safir 1B" satellite carrier can place a 50-kg satellite into Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

Simurgh satellite-carrier whose engine was unveiled last year can put 100-kg satellite into the orbit, Rezaei continued.

As to Fajr satellite to be launched by Iran, he said, the satellite is armed with thruster and is able to change its orbit and in such a case its life span hits one and a half year.

The main mission of 50-kg Fajr satellite is taking photos.
