Pressure builds up on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as two more of his allies, heads of the Arvand and Aras Economic Free Zones, are arrested for financial corruption.
Head of Arvand Economic Free Zone arrested
According to Mehr News Agency, Ali Asghar Parhizkar, head of the Arvand Economic Free Zone in southern Iran, has been arrested by security forces over financial corruption allegations. According to Fars News Agency, Parhizkar was a close ally of Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, the president's chief of staff, when he worked at Tehran Radio channel.
Head of Aras Economic Free Zone arrested
Also, Alireza Moqimi, head of the Aras Economic Free Zone in northwestern Iran, has been arrested. Chairman of East Azerbaijan's Justice Department, Malekajdar Sharifi, told the Fars News Agency that Moqimi was arrested on financial corruption charges.
