Iran introduced a new representative to Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) international council. The new figure, Mahmoud Reza Aghamiri, is a nuclear physics expert and a faculty member of prestigious Shahid Beheshti University.

The measure came a year after martyrdom of one of Iranian representatives to the council Dr. Massoud Ali Mohammadi and three months after martyrdom of another scientist Majid Shahriari who served as one of advisors of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the international organization. The two scientists were assasinated in car bombings in Tehran.
Born in 1961 in Tehran, Mahmoud Reza Aghamiri holds BA in physics and MA and PhD in nuclear physics.
Any SESAME member state has two representatives and two advisors in the council.
SESAME project deals with using a Synchrotron device in the region to be launched in Jordan through regional cooperation.
It can be used for basic sciences, nano technology, biotechnology, archeology, material engineering, medicine and making new drugs.
