The Non-Aligned Movement has issued a statement expressing support for Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, which was approved by the IAEA. The statement was read out by Egypt's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency during a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors on Wednesday.
According to the Iranian ambassador to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, the IAEA Board of Governors previously approved the statement issued by NAM confirming the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities.
"The meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement members was held on Friday, and the statement of the group, which was in support of Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and program, was approved," Soltanieh said on Saturday.
Iran rejects claims it does not cooperate with IAEA
During the meeting on Wednesday, Soltanieh said the claims that Iran does not cooperate with the IAEA are unfounded.
He stated that the fact that the IAEA conducts regular inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities and has installed cameras at those facilities proves that these allegations are false.
"The agency has full access to all nuclear material and facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, conducting routine and unannounced inspection as well as 24-hour cameras. Therefore, the assertion that Iran is not providing the necessary cooperation is incorrect and misleading."
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said, "The real intention of the proponents of the illegal United Nations Security Council resolutions is not the temporary suspension of only enrichment activities but the suspension of the entire nuclear fuel cycle, paving the way for the ultimate cessation of all nuclear activities in Iran."
