The hand-woven carpets produced in Iran's Northwestern
province of East Azarbaijan are finding a stronger foothold in the international
market, an Iranian provincial trade official said.

"70% of the carpets produced in the province are
good for exports," Head of East Azarbaijan's Commerce Organization Sadeq Najafi
said on Sunday, adding that carpets woven in his province are exported to five
continents of the world.

Late in April, Commerce Minister Mehdi Qazanfari
announced that Iran is the source of almost 40% of the world's exported carpets.
"The total volume of global carpet exports stands at $1.3bln annually of which
$500mln belongs to Iran," Qazanfari said at the time.
He also said that Iran boosted export of its carpets by 12% in the last Iranian
year compared with the previous year.
