Excerpts from Catalogue:
In a body of video performances from 2004, artist recreates the cliche imagination of migrants and aims to reflect the negative conceptions of chauvinism, terrorism and criminality, which have been cultivated in many cases in the Western society - particularly after 9/11. By playing these characters himself, Entekhabi dislocates their aggressive potential, that communicates with the audience through their latent threat, on himself. Through the personification of the cliches ,that are objects of social attention emerges the aspect of auto aggression and self-mortification.
While Entekhabi is known world wide for his video works and installations, his drawings are not widely seen. Since the last decade, his drawings have also often dealt with aspects of Western stereotypes in regard to migrants from the Middle East and with identity and the complex of seeing and being seen. Compared to the video performances, the drawings allow Entekhabi a more complex depiction of the inner processes and the outer factors as a base for the protagonists´actions .The multiple faces of the artist in these surreal and phantasmagoric creatures relate to various subtexts that are combined: mystical themes, apocalyptical visions and elements of the present day. By this, the artist opens new levels of meaning that deeply root the phenomenon of existence in-between two cultures into the history of humankind.
