Photos: Iranian soccer legend Hejazi laid to rest

Iranian soccer legend Naser Hejazi was laid to rest on Wednesday as thousands of his fans gathered in his funeral process.

Some veteran football players and officials including Persepolis football coach Ali Daei, former Iranian national soccer team goalkeeper Ahmad Reza Abedzadeh and football coach Ali Parvin attended the ceremony.

Hejazi's fans were carrying his pictures as chanting mottos on him praising his manner and behavior.

The Iranian retired football manager died on Monday due to lung cancer.

The 62-year old Iranian football star has been dealing with lung cancer since one and a half years ago. He was sent to hospital as watching local match between Esteghlal and Pas soccer teams as his disease reappeared.

The Iranian soccer legend died after he was hospitalized in Kasra hospital.

Nasser Hejazi was born in 1949. He was one of the most famous football players in Iran. He was goalkeeper of Iranian national football team in 1960's and 1970's and won for two times in AFC Asian Cup, one time in Asian Games. He also played for Iran in 1976 Summer Olympics and 1978 FIFA World Cup.

In 2000, the Asian Football Confederation ranked Hejazi the second best Asian goalkeeper of the 20th century.

Hejazi was head coach of Tehran's Esteghlal team from 1996 to 1999 and later in 2007. The team under Hejazi's leadershop won Azadegan League and Hazfi Cup and runner up in AFC Champions League.
