B|taa'rof is a bi-annual magazine and year-round blog about the collective experience of Iranians across generational and geographic borders. It is the virtual museum of Iranians living outside of Iran; the voice of the Iranian community in North America; and IAAB's newest and most exciting project to date.
The magazine will feature three sections: ORAL HISTORY, ESSAY WRITING, and VISUAL ARTS. Each section offers a creative bridge across years of undocumented memories and experiences, and the promise of shared understanding and acknowledgment to come.
ORAL HISTORY will present short story adaptations in English of interviews with ordinary Iranians over 40 years of age around the experience of the everyday.
ESSAY WRITING will provide a space for the practice of non-academic and non-polemical analysis and commentary on the past and the present.
VISUAL ARTS will feature the work of emerging artists breaking ground where the written word falls short.
The magazine will be accompanied by an interactive blog, providing everything and anything that pertains to the Iranian cultural experience from exposes on music and design to found photography and old advertisements.
The B|taa'rof blog and first issue drop in the Spring of 2012. Look out world - a new generation is raising its pen and we've got something to say.
