The Head of the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran (ISIRI) Nezamoddin Barzegari said the country's Ministry of Oil has promised to produce petrol under Euro-4 standards by mid 2012.
Barzegari said automobiles in Iran are using Euro-2 petrol for the time being, adding, "Ministry of Oil has promised to produce Euro-4 petrol by mid 2012."

He continued, "Petrol with 93-95 octane is very good to be used in cars and petrol with higher octane is considered to be perfect."
He said the gasoline being produced in Abadan Refinery, in southwestern Iran, possesses high quality and purity and rejected the claims on the low quality and contamination of Iranian gasoline comparing to its foreign samples.
