"Serbia didn't play its best. I told the players if we have a chance in this match, we have to take it", he added.
Iran's Pourya Fayazi was named the most impressive player of the match.
Iran is scheduled to play Poland on Thursday in the event's second round.
Iran's last participation in the FIVB World Cup was in 1991 where they finished 11th overall.
