Iranian and South Korean artists to promote culture of peace

A group of Iranian and South Korean artists will be gathering in Masuleh in northern Iran to create artworks with the central theme of a culture of peace for ten days beginning on November 23.

The artworks will later go on display in an exhibition at the Iranian Artists Forum, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Monday.

The artists met at the conference hall of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO on Sunday, where they discussed different issues on art.

The session was arranged to allow the artists to become more familiar with the cultures of both countries, Secretary General of the Iranian commission Mohammadreza Saeidabadi said at the session.

Kim Guin-hu, the director of the Cultural Office of South Korean Embassy in Iran expressed hope that the cultures of Iran and S. Korea can draw closer to each other and that more conferences of this type would be held in the future.

He said that people of Korea are interested in Iran and that they would like to see increased bilateral cultural relations.

Korean musician Ki Hoon, also among the participants, talked about music and said that his country is active in music and painting.

The traditional music of South Korea has some similarities with Iranian traditional music, he added.

"We have long been trying to promote our country's music in different countries and so far, we have been able to cooperate with England and France. Now, we are planning to develop this cooperation with Iran and Mongolia," the musician added.

The representative of the Korean artists, Ko Soon-kyu, also expressed his happiness that the delegation had the chance to meet with Iranian artists especially land artist Ahmad Nadalian.

He said that Nadalian has provided them with good information about Iran, adding that they have different programs to perform in Iran.

Painter Jamshid Haqshenas, musician Farzin Tehranian, photographer Saeid Aznaveh, documentary filmmaker Alireza Qasemi and Nadalian were among the participating Iranian artists.
