Iran trounced Bahrain 6-0 to stay on the top of the table in Group E of the Asian World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

In front of about 80,000 spectators at Tehran's Azadi Stadium, Iran got the upper hand after Australian referee Peter Green sent off Bahraini player Rashed Al Hooti due to a bad tackle on Andranik Teymourian just 40 seconds into the match.

Jalal Hosseini put the Iranian team in the lead in the 22nd minute. Mojtaba Jabbari extended Iran's lead in the 34th minute. Hadi Aghili scored Iran's third goal with a header three minutes before the break.

Teymourian found the back of the net with a wonderful long-range shot in the 62nd minute. Substitute Karim Ansarifard scored Iran's fifth goal in the 75th minute, and after coming off the bench, Gholamreza Rezaei finished off a pass from Khosro Heydari to make it 6-0.

In the other match in the group on Tuesday, Qatar beat Indonesia 3-2.

Iran is in first place in Group E with 7 points followed by Qatar, which has five points, and Bahrain with four points. Indonesia is in fourth place with zero points.
