The Islamic Republic of Iran's power industry exports will increase to $4 billion in current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21), Deputy Energy Minister Mohmmad Behzad said.
"Iran's electricity export and related technical and engineering services exports will value at $4 billion this year," Behzad said that the country's net electricity exports will be valued at $1 billion.
Announcing that Iran's 45 power plants are to be handed over to the private sector, Behzad said that "in the first stage, the privatization of the 35 power plants was on the agenda and another 10 power plants have been targeted for privatization in the second stage."
The government is committed to privatize about 80 percent of the country's power plants, the official said.
Iran's electricity network is integrated into the power grids of various neighboring countries, including Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.
