The Executive Director of Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) Abdulrahman Abdullah al-Awadi criticized Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE over building artificial islands and complexes inside sea.

Speaking on the sidelines of the first meeting of environmental awareness, regional strategies and operational plane of Protect Marine Environment in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea held at the level of experts in Dubai, he referred to building man-made islands inside seas and said, "Unfortunately, building complexes and huge structures inside the sea in Qatar and Bahrain as well as the UAE have always been criticized by us."
He has already called for preparation of a serious plan to confront any possible radioactive leak into seas.
The first meeting of ROPME held at the level of experts hosted 8 littoral states including the Islamic Republic of Iran. It was kicked off in Dubai Monday. The three-day meeting aimed to prepare boosting strategy of environmental awareness in regional countries.
Al-Awadi also had stressed pure water is the most important environmental challenge in the region.
