The 2003 earthquake was a major earthquake that struck Bam and the surrounding Kerman province of southeastern Iran on Friday, December 26, 2003.

A volunteer group of experienced reconstructive surgeons, Mission: Restore will be traveling to Iran on a mission to perform reconstructive plastic surgery on children in the city of Bam. The mission is led by Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh, who was featured in a moving 60 Minutes piece dated July, 3rd 2011, featuring how reconstructive surgery transformed the life of an Iraqi child victimized by the country's civil strife. The mission commences October 28th, 2011 and ends on November 8th, 2011. As a community service to Iranian Americans, Mission: Restore will offer a small number of motivated, young Iranian American volunteers who are looking for a way to both experience Iran, learn about medical practice, and give back to their land of heritage. Volunteers do not need to have medical proficiency. However, they must have the following criteria:
Mission: Restore is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization established in the fall of 2010. It provides life-changing plastic and reconstructive surgery both globally and locally to children and adults in need. The organization travels to places where most doctors would not go in order to bring updated medical care to "forgotten patients" and good will to the out of reach communities. Doctors associated with Mission: Restore are all volunteers.
