Spring 2012 Persian Concert Tour in US by Ostad Majid Derakhshani, Katayoun Goudarzi and Abhiman Kaushal

Iranian renowned composer Ostad Majid Derakhshani just released a statement regarding his upcoming tour with Katayoun Goudarzi and Abhiman Kaushal in the USA. According to Ostad Derakhshani this tour will begin in Spring of 2012 and should cover all major cities in the USA.

In this tour composer Majid derakhshani ( Tar ), Katayoun Goudarzi ( Vocal ), Shaho Andalibi ( Ney ), Pouria Akhavass ( Vocal, Gheychak) and  Abhiman Kaushal ( tabla ) will perform compositions by Majid Derakhshani.

Earlier this year the ensemble released their latest album "Beedel" based on Poetry of Maulana Jalal al-Din Muhammad Balkhi (Rumi)

 

Majid Derakhshani the founder of Khorshid Ensemble is considered one of Iran's most important and influential composers and instrumentalists of the Persian classical music. He was born into a family of artists from the Iranian province Semnan. During his studies of string instruments and composition at the University of Tehran, the legendary Mohammad Reza Lotfi became his teacher.

Subsequent to his emigration to Germany he founded the Nawa Musikzentrum in Cologne; the primary and most active center for Persian classical music outside of Iran.[citation needed] In Iran Majid Derakhshani is deemed to be amongst the best on his instrument - the tar. Hence he carries the venerable title Ostad, denoting him as a master of his instrument. His virtuosity has been celebrated worldwide in festivals, concerts, and radio and television productions.

He has composed for myriads of international musicians, such as the greatly renowned Iranian singer Mohammad Reza Shajarian (Album Dar Khial). Majid's declared ambition is to familiarize western culture with Iranian classical music.

His albums include:  Dar Khial with Mohammad Reza Shajarian, Zabane Atash with Mohammad Reza Shajarian,Pejvan and Neyriz with Jamshid Andalibi and Morteza Ayan, Fasle baran with Alireza Ghorbani, boodan va soroudan, Morning Breeze, Shahr Ashnaie with Hesam Seraj, Beedel with Katayoun Goudarzi.

Katayoun Goudarzi: Known for her distinctive melodic style of recitation which blends an emotive rendition of the poetry with meticulous attention to the linguistic and lyrical integrity of the piece, Katayoun Goudarzi 's performance and recording credits include collaboration with the master of Indian Sitar Ustad Shujaat Husain Khan, saxophonist and composer Tim Ries [of the Rolling Stones], jazz pianist and composer Kevin Hays, percussionist and arranger Satoshi Takeishi, composer and Tar & Setar player Ustad Majid Derakhshani amongst others.

Abhiman Kaushal is an outstanding tabla artist who is much sought after for his sensitive accompaniment and intense solo playing. Kaushal has numerous recordings including "Ravi Shankar in Venice," "Farewell My Friend" (with Ravi Shankar), and "Passages" (with Ravi Shankar and Philip Glass). National Geographic has recorded his tabla for the soundtrack to their documentary "Man Eaters of North India." He has also recorded for various world music compilations, Zoolander the movie and has performed live for MTV's Aerosmith icon show.

Shaho Andalibi: Trained by Jamshid Andalibi and Iraj Andalibi, Shaho Andalibi is one of Iran's best ney players. Shaho is currently a member of Shahnaz Ensemble (performing with Mohammad Reza Shajarian & Majid Derakhshani ) and Khorshid Ensemble under the direction of Majid Derakhshani.

Trained by Ustad Sarvestaani,  Hossein Alizadeh and and Mohsen Karamati, Pourya Akhavass one of Iran's finest vocalist has performed extensively  with  Hossein  Alizadeh and  Majid Derakhshani world wide. His performance credits also include collaboration with Iran National orchestra.
