Iran's Mehdi Taghavi claimed a gold medal in the FILA World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul on Sunday night. The Iranian 66kg freestyle wrestler, defeated Japanese Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu in the competition held in Istanbul, Turkey.
"I wanted to win the gold medal, that's why I am here; however winning gold in the London 2012 Olympic Games would be my main objective," Taghavi said.
The bronze medal jointly went to Jabrayil Hasanov from Azerbaijan and Livan Lopez Azcuy of Cuba.
Iranian Sadegh Goudarzi also claimed a silver medal in the 74kg weight class. He lost to Jordan Burroughs from the U.S. in the final game.
Ashraf Aliyev from Azerbaijan shared a bronze medal with Georgian Davit Khutshishvili in theis weight class.
Iran's Reza Yazdani in 96kg had already won the gold while Hassan Rahimi, his 55kg countryman claimed a bronze medal in the competition.
Iran freestyle team finished in second place of the World Championship with 41 points, behind Russia with 43 points. The U.S. came third with 38 points.
