After the release of two US nationals convicted of illegal entry and espionage in the Islamic Republic, Iran's Foreign Ministry calls for the release of Iranian nationals held in US prisons.
On Wednesday, Iran's Judiciary announced the release Shane Michael Bauer and Joshua Felix Fattal on a total bail amount of USD 1,000,000.
The two American nationals had earlier been sentenced by Branch 15 of Tehran's Revolution Court to eight years in prison.
Iran's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Thursday expressing concerns about "hard and inhumane" situation of dozens of Iranian nationals that have been imprisoned in the US and other countries such as the UK at the request of the American administration while deprived of their basic rights.
The Iranian nation expects influential political and religious dignitaries to spare no effort to provide the jailed innocent Iranians with their basic rights and to release them.
Together with Sarah Shourd, another US national, Bauer, Fattal were arrested on the Iranian soil in July 2009 after illegally crossing the border from the mountains of the Iraqi Kurdistan region in the north of Iraq.
The three were charged with espionage after Tehran Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi found "compelling evidence" that they had actually been cooperating with US intelligence agencies.
Iran released Shourd on a bail of USD 500,000 in September 2010, 14 months after her arrest. The decision was made based on humanitarian grounds. Bauer and Fattal were each sentenced to eight years in prison.
