Iran basketball team failed to reserve a seat at the 2012 Olympic Games in London after the men's team was beaten by Jordan in the 26th FIBA Asia Championship. The two-time defending champions lost to the west Asian team 88-84 on Friday in the quarterfinal round.
Iran earned a consolation 98-66 victory over Chinese Taipei on Saturday and will play Lebanon on Sunday for fifth place.
Hamed Haddadi boosted his statistics with 21 points and 14 rebounds and Hamed Afagh fired six three-pointers for his 18 points.
Wu Tai-ho was the highest scorer for Taipei with 16 points.
The champion will directly qualify for next year's London Olympics while the runners-up and bronze medalist have to compete in the Olympic qualifying tournament in July, 2012.
