Iran-China trade can hit $100bn: Envoy

Iran's Ambassador to China Mehdi Safari says trade transactions between the Islamic Republic and China has the capacity to reach $100 billion.

"This real expectation that the volume of trade (between Iran and China) has the capacity to reach $100 billion is on our agenda," Safari said at an economic forum on introducing investment opportunities of Iran's East Azarbaijan provice in Beijing on Monday, IRNA reported.

He added that bilateral trade between the two countries will reach $45 billion in the current Iranian year (started March 21).

Iran-China trade transactions hit $30 billion in the last Iranian year, he noted.

The official referred to Iran's strategic position and its easy access to regional markets and said good returns and diversification in investment are among the advantages of investing in Iran.

An Iranian delegation headed by the Governor of Iran's West Azerbaijan province Ahmad Alirezabeigi travelled to Beijing to take part in the one-day economic forum.

Speaking in the forum, Alirezabeigi described the geographical location and commercial benefits of his province as unique and said the establishment of industrial parks in East Azarbaijan province has created proper opportunities for foreign investors.

He referred to the province as the gateway between Asia and Europe, due to its location on the Silk Road, and said the existence of some 43 industrial townships and cheap labor, have facilitated investment in the region.

The official invited Chinese producers and businessmen to invest in East Azarbaijan province.
