The First Conference on Troglodytic Architecture will be held on 26-27 April 2012 in Kerman, Iran.
Introduction and Goals
The Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization intends to hold a conference by the title of Troglodytic Architecture, based on plans approved by the Research Institute of the Organization and the Kerman Cultural Heritage Office, in cooperation with the Heritage and Handicrafts and Tourism Base of troglodytic village of Maymand, UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office, Shahid Beheshti University,Tehran Art University, Shahid Ba Honar University of Kerman, Science and Technology University and local and foreign experts, on 26 April 2012, in the Kerman Province of Iran.
Troglodytic architecture, considered as an unimportant and at times unacceptable act until the 1970s, is now considered as a creative art of humankind, born in interaction with the environment and nature and is globally accepted following the intensification of the energy crisis in recent years. In Iran also this kind of architecture has found a place and credit. As a result, some sites such as Maymand, which remained unknown to many people, are in competition with other historical sites for inscription on the World Heritage list.
Rich as Her history is and being specifically mention worthy from a geographical and ecologic point of view, Iran is a country practicing Troglodytic architecture, deserving to be introduced to all.
This conference of Troglodytic architecture, a specialized and innovative conference, can thus help as in achieving the above mentioned goal. Being one in its kind in the world within the past decade, this conference will result in the introduction of Iran and its works in the area of Troglodytic architecture. Moreover, holding a conference of this nature, especially at a time when Maymand has been nominated for inscription, further emphasizes the unique value of this cultural landscape. Organizing a conference of this kind can also help us achieve other goals and set the grounds for designing our future plans for the conservation of cultural landscapes.
