Iranian security forces say they have renewed their crusade against satellite dishes.
The Mehr News Agency reports that Brigadier General Ahmadreza Radan, the deputy head of Iranian security forces, announced on Monday that they are intent on stepping up efforts to confiscate all satellite dishes.
"Fortunately, with good cooperation from the public, the use of satellite dishes has fallen significantly," Radan claimed.
Radan also commended the national broadcaster Seda-va-Sima for increasing the number of channels it carries and producing more varied programming in order to compete with satellite programs.
He maintained that more interesting national programming has caused a significant drop in the use of satellites in the country.
In recent years, the Iranian government has made the use of satellites a serious crime. As part of the government's "Social Security" plan, police are charged with identifying households that have satellite dishes and confiscating them.
