A baby girl, only two days old, was abandoned by her parents at the gate of a commercial complex at Naderi street in Ahvaz, southern Iran. According to Mehr News Agency, when the people were heading to work in the morning, they came across the sad scene of the abandoned baby crying and needing attention.

A bottle, milk and clothing were left inside a bag next to the baby to provide for the her needs for a day.

Ali Saraji, one of the shopkeepers in the area, told Mehr that a young woman who had spotted the baby wanted to take her but other people didn't allow it and instead contacted the police. The police officers who took the baby told the woman that only the court can decide about the baby's case and that she can apply to adopt the baby if she wishes to do so.

Saraji added "I do not know the reasons the parents of this innocent baby abandoned her, but today tears were flowing from the eyes of many of the local shopkeepers."
