OLYMPICS: Weightlifter Kianoush Rostami wins Iran's first medal, a bronze

Kianoush Rostami claimed the Olympic bronze medal in the men's weightlifting 85kg event on Friday. World champion Kianoush Rostami lifted 171kg in snatch and 209kg in clean and jerk. He finished at third place with a total of 380kg.

Soharab Moradi, another Iranian lifter in the weight category, failed in his three attempts to lift 166kg in the snatch.

Adrian Zielinski from Poland seized the gold by lifting 174kg in snatch, 211kg in clean and jerk and 385kg in total.

Apti Aukhadov from Russia lifted the same total, the Pole won because of his lower bodyweight.

"I am happy to hoist of my country flag in the Olympics. I and Sohrab could have won the gold and silver medals if we repeated our records registered in the trainings," Rostami said.

"I hope the event help me to win gold medal in the next Olympics. Now, I have a feeling between happiness and sadness," the 21-year-old lifter said.
