The Egyptian State News Agency reports that Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi will travel to Iran next week to attend the NAM summit. Mursi will be the first Egyptian president to travel to Iran in over 30 years.

Egypt is the current head of the Non-Aligned Movement and will hand over the presidency of the group to Iran during the summit in Tehran.

Iran cut off relations with Egypt after the 1979 Revolution, when the Egyptian government officially recognized the state of Israel.

Following the victory of Mohammad Mursi in the recent Egyptian elections, Iran extended congratulations to the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, and both sides have shown interest in resuming relations.

Iran has announced that the leaders of 35 countries will attend the summit in Tehran. NAM has a membership of 120 countries with 20 others remaining at the observer level.

Some countries reportedly have not yet confirmed whether they will attend.
